spring thoughts
so...yesterday i was thinking that summer is almost here, and i started to get really excited. but then i had this huge realization that summer is actually forever away and spring has barely even begun. i think it's this weather thing in california that's throwing me off. usually, when it starts getting warm and sunny you know that summer's comin. but here, it's already been sunny and generally warm for the last few weeks. it tricks you into thinking that summer's about here, when in fact spring has barely started.so then i got even more excited, because i remembered all the things about this spring that i was looking forward to. even just here in april there's some pretty cool stuff lined up.
1) easter. i like easter. one of my absolute fave things about this holiday is all of the super cheesy songs. these songs are exactly the type of thing that i normally describe as sick, but for some reason i love them at easter. as far as congregational singing is concerned, i particularly enjoy "Up from the Grave He Arose," b/c it's so hilar when everyone gets into it. and as far as solo acts go, the best are most def "He's Alive," "Via Dolorosa," "Arise," and the old Ray Boltz classic "Watch the Lamb." it just wouldn't be easter without them.
2) the shane & shane concert coming up in a couple of weeks. they are playing with bethany dillon (who i love love love) and i'm pumped. i'm not sure yet if i can go, but i really hope i can. i've been in cincy the last 2 times the shanes have come to cali. so it's about time i'm actually here for one of their shows
3) the LA Times book festival. i've always wanted to go (and by that i mean last year i wanted to go). every year thousands of people come to UCLA for this huge book festival. of course there's tons of vendors with all sorts of goodies. there's also a bunch of authors who do workshops and panels and stuff. franny's not coming, so i'm kinda bummed about that, but oh well. plus, there's like 5 main stages around the grounds with cool stuff going on all day. oh man, i can't wait.
on a different note, yesterday i joined the american cornhole association. i will be receiving my membership card in the mail in 7-10 business days. ahhh, there's nothing like a game of cornhole and a bottle of Ale-8 on a nice spring/summer evening. i learned on the aca's webpage that cornhole actually originated in cincinnati, and most of it's popularity is focused in the tri-state area. however, the aca is working hard to bring the joy that is cornhole to all 50 states!

a few things...
1) i'm super pumped that you have now joined the blogging world and i'll add you to my links very soon.
2) what the crap is cornhole?
3) too bad you couldn't be HERE for when Shane & Shane/Bethany/Aaron come to LCC!!! S&S in the hizzy!!!
Over...you are hilar. I can't believe you love "Up from the grave he arose"...do you remember me and Bec singing that? ...and "Watch the Lamb" gets me everytime. Another great thing about Spring/Easter is Easter Lillees (sick)....one of my fave flowers.
As for Shane & Shane...don't think I've ever heard one of their songs...same with Bethany Dillon.
Ill call you this weekend! Love you, Linds
"Up from the grave He arose...with a mighty triumph o'er His foes"
So sad, the churches move away from traditional hymns...where else you going to find rhymes like that??? I ask you!
I was always rather fond of "Morning has Broken" at the sunrise service....and no Easter service was complete without "Christ the Lord is Risen Today Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah leluia"
Hi Lindsay!!
