it's gonna be a red letter day

It's only 9 AM, but today has already been a great day for the following three (3) reasons:

1- In my closet I found a pair of sufficiently** dressy yet remarkably comfy pants I had forgotten about.

2- I thought I lost my debit card and was planning to go online and cancel it/get a new one when I got to work. Then during my commute I found it hiding in my car.

3- I filled up my gas tank this morning for $2.99/gallon. I don't remember the last time it's been under $3...it's been MONTHS. This is exceptionally good news given my upcoming 2,000+ mile drive.

**FYI...When double checking my spelling of this word, I was thrown off by the new look of dictionary.com. I haven't decided yet if I like it.

here's to being cultured

In addition to the two museums I’ve attended in the last couple weeks, I’ve also had the good fortune of attending 2 entertainment events, both of the “purchase a real ticket” variety as opposed to the “its summer so come enjoy our cool event for dirt cheap or maybe even free” variety. (However, I have frequented my fair share of the latter over the last couple months :)

Anyway, the first event I went to was a pro tennis match, part of the ATP tour. We had tickets to the final, which was cool. Agassi and Roddick were both in the tourney, but one dropped out with an injury and the other got upset in the first round. So, we got there and found out our ticket actually got us a seat to the doubles final as well as the singles final. After watching two finals matches, I’ve decided that tennis is definitely my new favorite sport to watch live. I was quite surprised by this revelation. I mean, my general sports knowledge is above average, but I’ve never been a tennis player, I don’t know all the ins and outs of the game, and I don’t know many of the players except the notables, to borrow a term from the golf leaderboard. Watching tennis is unlike any other event I’ve ever been to. Somehow it’s really intense but also really laid back at the same time. I don’t know exactly how to describe it…all I can say is that you should definitely take the chance to attend a match, should it ever arise.

Secondly, on Sunday night I got to see AIDA. It wasn’t the official professional tour or anything, but it was still soooo good. I was completely drawn in and found myself on the edge of my seat more than once. I haven’t attended as many shows as I’d like over the years, but I absolutely love theater. There’s just something about being completely captivated and affected by the beauty of movement and music. I never really knew this particular storyline before, but found that it’s incredible. As an unexpected added bonus, the kid who played Michelle’s friend Derek in “Full House” was in the show. He was really great…although I must confess that during some of his songs all I could think of was him singing “Yankee Doodle” from that episode with Michelle’s school play.

Anyway, here’s to being cultured. Next up: tickets to the Major League Lacrosse Finals this Sunday, a visit to LACMA, and then to the California Cup Surfing Contest in September (does that count as “cultured”?)
